Project 1 - Submission

Next Wednesday is the submission date for Project 1 which includes the Group Model, Parti Drawings and Poche Drawings.

I would expect that at this stage most of you are well on your way to some great results. I have not seen many Poche drawings however so remember to email me photos over the weekend if you have any questions or want to get some feedback.

You will be required to be pinning up your work promptly at 2pm. We will begin at 2:15pm.

Put your individual work on the wall in your groups and place the model on a table in front of the work. Make sure your project is clearly, neatly labelled and that all drawings and text are legible. Assure you have appropriately mounted or backed your work with white paper/card for best display.

Please nominate someone in the group to present the model; to outline the specifics of the building based on your research, including the position of the section and thought behind the construction of the model. We will be having in depth discussions on each building so make sure you are properly versed.

I look forward to seeing some great results!

Project 1 - Progress

Ok after a somewhat slow start this week I am expecting to see some great progress with the models next wednesday. I would expect you to at least be half way with the models (at least).

Don't for forget that next Wednesday evening after class at 6:30pm there is a talk at Scientia UNSW but Jan Utzon and Richard Johnson. I will be going so we can all head up there after class.

Everyone must have a solid set of Parti draft sketches and I will be checking in with all of you to see what you have worked up.

CHECK OUT ANU'S (TUTOR) BLOG PAGE FOR SOME GREAT EXAMPLES.

Monday Lecture Week 2

I think today's lecture provided some great examples for the Parti and Poche. Remember to bring at least two parti sketches each this week. You may like to create a series investigating different aspects of the building: Circulation/Structure/Envelope etc. As mentioned you will pin them on the wall at the beginning of class and we will have a discussion before you get started on the models.

Week 2 Project 1 > Notes

As you begin Project 1 with both group and individual work, I want to clarify a few points in response to some emails...

1. Sectional Model - Make sure you identify an appropriate and telling point at which to take your section/s through your villa. You will decide on your section/s with a good argument and understanding, as to why a particular cut has been chosen for the 'section model'. Discuss your thoughts about the building in depth before you make this call. Each building can be dissected in different ways so there will be many responses. Consider the sections drawn in the drawing material you have uncovered. Where did the architect draw their section? and why do you think?

2. Materials - It is important that you call/visit various art stores to find the appropriate materials for the project. Read the outline very carefully before you purchase. Plan the amount of materials required and calculate accordingly. Minimise waste and cost and be thoughtful with model making techniques because I will be looking for quality and precision.

Next Week:
MODEL: Arrange with group to bring all necessary model materials and building equipment. We will be getting straight into it! Have scaled drawings to use for reference as you build.
PARTI: Remember to bring at least 2 sketch Parti diagrams to class next week. Pin them neatly on the wall as a class group as you come to class next week. Lecture: Xing may highlight some key information and examples of partis on Monday.

*Important note: - Lecture has moved to Central Lecture Block 6
Attend the lecture so that you have the best possible understanding of the tasks in front of you.
I will expect to see you all there each week.
